How Can OCULi HD Aid The Security of Commercial and Residential Vacant Properties?

The number of unoccupied properties in the UK has reached record highs with over 615,000 empty buildings in 2019. Over 440,000 of these were residential dwellings and over 170,000 were commercial buildings representing over 150 million square feet of vacant retail space. Residential vacancies had seen a stark increase of 75% since 2012 and post pandemic these figures will only rise in number.

Whatever the reason a property is vacant, whether residential or commercial, they become a target for anti-social behaviour, including vandalism, theft of materials such as roof tiles and fly-tipping. In turn, a build-up of rubbish leads to rodent and insect infestations and there are obvious threats such as arson. Empty buildings also attract squatters who can be costly and timely to remove.

As such, empty buildings cost more to insure but sufficient security can mitigate these additional costs and there are now a plethora of security installers who offer vacant property protection as part of their portfolio.

OCULi HD is a standalone PIR with a built-in camera which can be powered by lithium batteries or solar. It does not require a hub or wi-fi connection and will provide rapid visual verification of an intruder which can be viewed in seconds via a mobile app or online portal. Users can request more footage of an event and if powered by solar users can live stream images. OCULi HD also has a Time Lapse mode where it takes an image at regular intervals to compile a Time Lapse video.

Crucially, for vacant property protection, there are a number of sounder functions to add an extra layer of security. These include live voice challenge, or an automatic sounder or message can be played whenever the motion sensor is triggered. OCULi HD units are also fitted with a powerful IR providing an extra deterrent at night. Units can be easily deployed in minutes using a magnetic mount.

OCULi HD integrates with popular third-party platforms if protecting property via a security monitoring company or units can be self-monitored using the portal and app.

Dundee University

IndigoVision security surveillance for universities: University of Dundee

Needing to keep over 17,000 students safe, the University of Dundee decided to go with the IndigoVision solution supplied by Authorised Partner Scottish Communications. Wondering if your current security surveillance system is fit-for-purpose?

We are a campus that is about 72 buildings. We’ve got close to 17,000 students and about 3,000 staff members. The other part to that is that we are very centrally located downtown urban university, and of course that being said, we also don’t have a wall around the university.

IndigoVision allows us to spend our time and our resources helping people. The video intercom assistance points that we have that are integrated with IndigoVision through Control Center, they are rolled out strategically around campus, and when somebody activates that button it automatically activates a two-way video intercom. But sadly, that video intercom is about this big and it doesn’t give us a very good overall picture. So, by tying them into IndigoVision we are able to create a trigger to activate the closest PTZ camera that would turn and zoom in on the big picture view of what’s going on.

We may have 300 cameras but we only have six people on staff, but having one person who mans the Control Center means he can sit here and watch 36 cameras kind of at the same time. So instead of needing 36 people, we have 36 cameras and one person who’s monitoring them.

Campus Security, Adam speaking.

Control Center ties everything together. So, you can have an access control software, you can have a CCTV software, you can have a million-in-one different software’s, but if you have to flip between five or six of them all you’re doing is wasting time, especially in a critical incident response. You want everything as streamlined as possible, and for us, it’s that Control Center that has been that ribbon that has tied them all together. We want our officers out doing 101 other things, not sitting at a desk trying to figure out how to work a software.

The fact that the IndigoVision Control Center platform is so easy to use and it’s very easy to learn and it’s quite intuitive, means that my officers don’t have to waste time. We have all the cameras build onto a map as little icons, so as an incident moves through campus, instead of trying to scroll through a hundred cameras on a list, our officers can just click the next camera on a route and follow an incident as they move through our campus. When incidents happen, seconds count.

We’ve had an excellent partnership with the University of Dundee for over five years now. University of Dundee have vision in where they want to be in three years’ time, in five years’ time and in ten years’ time. And they share that vision with us, and they share their operational requirements from now and for the future.

IndigoVision is very responsive, they stand behind their product, but beyond that, they’re willing to work with you to make sure that your system is absolutely fit for purpose, and that’s a key thing when you’re looking for a partner.

SilverNet ECHO G2 Launched

Silvernet improve their cost effective range of WISP equipment

The Silvernet ECHO Product range is especially suited for rural and WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider) type applications where cost is most important. The ECHO-ST will save money, whilst servicing the need to construct a solid and reliable wireless system. Therefore, replacing the requirement for expensive leased lines.

Silvernet have improved a number of areas of the ECHO system for G2 whilst not increasing the cost. Improvements include:

  • Improved Mountings
  • Upgraded PSU
  • Expanded firmware features (this also operates on the G1 version)
  • Improved SilverView integration

Silvernet ECHO Map

Did you know the ECHO has a feature called phase shift? This nudges the rf channel across 5Mhz and means that the signal is undetectable to non-ECHO WiFi devices. Additionally, to assist installation engineers, Silvernet have provided default configuration files for UK band B or band C. This ensures it is easy to setup an ECHO wireless link legally for UK installations.

Are you prepared for a potential cyber-attack?

Are you prepared for a potential cyber-attack?

There are two types of companies in the world, those that know they have been hacked and those that don’t know it yet. With cybercrime on the rise, never before has it been so crucial to every company’s safety to have cybersecurity technology installed and integrated to their security system.

IndigoVision offers customers a complete end-to-end security management solution. Not only does IndigoVision have a cybersecurity offering, but it has also released a security hardening guide which contains information on the best practices for protecting security systems.

cybervigilant

What is CyberVigilant®?

The CyberVigilant® device simply connects to a managed edge network switch to monitor connected devices using Switched Port Analyser (SPAN) functionality. In the event that any anomalies are detected, alarms are sent directly into the Control Center user interface. This enables users to respond immediately to a cyber-attack.

These anomalies include, but are not limited to:

  • unauthorized configuration access attempts
  • network reconnaissance/scans
  • device access from unauthorized clients
  • shell access
  • use of unauthorized DNS, NTP and SMTP servers
  • Denial Of Service (DoS)

It is available for purchase in two options, suitable for monitoring 16- or 24-channel edge switches.

CyberVigilant® in Camera is designed around the same principles as the CyberVigilant® device, but the technology is inside selected BX cameras, made possible through a firmware update. CyberVigilant® in Camera is able to track any attempts from unauthorized devices trying to access them, sending real-time alerts to Control Center, and refusing to communicate with any device that’s not on the whitelist.
