How Can OCULi HD Aid The Security of Commercial and Residential Vacant Properties?

The number of unoccupied properties in the UK has reached record highs with over 615,000 empty buildings in 2019. Over 440,000 of these were residential dwellings and over 170,000 were commercial buildings representing over 150 million square feet of vacant retail space. Residential vacancies had seen a stark increase of 75% since 2012 and post pandemic these figures will only rise in number.

Whatever the reason a property is vacant, whether residential or commercial, they become a target for anti-social behaviour, including vandalism, theft of materials such as roof tiles and fly-tipping. In turn, a build-up of rubbish leads to rodent and insect infestations and there are obvious threats such as arson. Empty buildings also attract squatters who can be costly and timely to remove.

As such, empty buildings cost more to insure but sufficient security can mitigate these additional costs and there are now a plethora of security installers who offer vacant property protection as part of their portfolio.

OCULi HD is a standalone PIR with a built-in camera which can be powered by lithium batteries or solar. It does not require a hub or wi-fi connection and will provide rapid visual verification of an intruder which can be viewed in seconds via a mobile app or online portal. Users can request more footage of an event and if powered by solar users can live stream images. OCULi HD also has a Time Lapse mode where it takes an image at regular intervals to compile a Time Lapse video.

Crucially, for vacant property protection, there are a number of sounder functions to add an extra layer of security. These include live voice challenge, or an automatic sounder or message can be played whenever the motion sensor is triggered. OCULi HD units are also fitted with a powerful IR providing an extra deterrent at night. Units can be easily deployed in minutes using a magnetic mount.

OCULi HD integrates with popular third-party platforms if protecting property via a security monitoring company or units can be self-monitored using the portal and app.

Luminite: Providing Construction Site Security Solutions For a Range of Scenarios

Theft of construction equipment, machinery and fuel costs the construction industry over £800 million each year. Luminite offers a range of wireless security solutions aimed at sites where power is often compromised.

Wireless PIR Cameras

OCULi, from Luminite, is battery powered and provides rapid visual verification of an event which can be viewed in seconds via a mobile app or online portal.  The Wireless HD 4G PIR Camera provides seven seconds of HD images upon detection. Users can also request more footage of an event activation. A solar conversion kit makes it viable to live stream images and manually arm/disarm, overriding the automatic arm schedule.

The new 40m version is particularly suited to detecting vehicles or assets across a large area with the telephoto lens offering clear, close-up images from a distance.

Working with current security patrols or as a standalone system, alarm events can be viewed within seconds and the appropriate response made. Costs can be saved by ascertaining the cause of the alarm and filtering out non-events meaning personnel do not have to attend unnecessarily. Units can be wall-mounted or affixed to scaffolding.

Alertex

Around 40% (approximately 100,000) of all construction site fires are started deliberately and in line with HSG168 regulations, all sites must display a visual AND audible alert to fire. The Alertex wireless fire system has been designed specifically for temporary and evolving sites and complies with HSE Fire Safety Guidelines.

Units are quickly deployable around a site and have a robust 1km transmission range between units. Decibel levels can be adjusted to a maximum of 117 dB and are weatherproof to IP66 standard.

Wireless heat and smoke detectors can be added to a system and will activate Alertex units within their 100m range.

Genesis

Portable CCTV towers offer a quick and easily deployable option for construction companies. When fitted with Genesis PIR detectors or OCULi units they provide a robust solution with alarm and tamper relays.

A battery-powered sounder can also be used as an audible deterrent. These are fitted with an adjustable timer and can work with any alarm product that has volt free contacts. PIR detectors can also be used in conjunction with lighting control on sites at night.

Exclusive Zones

Construction sites often need to create temporary exclusion zones as a warning for when an area becomes too dangerous for workers or pedestrians to enter. This can be due to crane activity, moving vehicles, a spillage, workers at height or any other type of hazardous activity.

Alertex units can be quickly deployed around a perimeter to create an exclusion zone. These can be activated via a mobile key fob from 100 metres away and tripods are available for mounting units.

Boundary Shield

Active Wireless IR beams can be wall or pole mounted and create an invisible perimeter barrier around a whole site or part of a site where additional security is required, for example, storage areas for flammable material. The beams are fitted with Genesis transmitters and are compatible with all Genesis products.

60m and 100m beams are available with either fixed or adjustable frequency control to avoid cross-talk between beams.

NEW OCULi HD PIR CAMERA with 40m DETECTION

Introducing Luminite’s New OCULi HD PIR Camera with 40m Detection

New OCULi HD PIR Camera with 40m Detection

Capturing high definition footage over longer distances

Luminite is delighted to announce the launch of their new long range HD OCULi wireless PIR camera to compliment their standard 15m model.  The new 40m version is particularly suited to detecting vehicles or assets across a large area with the telephoto lens offering clear, close-up images from a distance.

As with the 15m version, OCULi HD has a built in 5 megapixel camera and users can select which camera resolution they wish to use from VGA up to 5MP. When used with our specially adapted solar kit, OCULi HD users can request live streaming, ask for more footage and manually arm and dis-arm the unit. A horn speaker is available to provide voice challenge or an alert on detection.

The new 40m version is especially suited to larger areas where detection is needed such as car parks and construction sites offering such locations robust long range detection without the need for power. The camera field of view is wider than the detection range at 60° ensuring events are captured and available for viewing, typically within 30 seconds from detection.

OCULi HD is supported by our unique monitoring platform which enables users to view events, add sites, assign users, change settings and keep track of data and battery usage.

Graham Creek, Managing Director at Luminite, commented:

‘The industry has long been requesting a battery powered PIR camera that can deliver high resolution images at longer distances than are currently available, and we are delighted to be innovators in this area.’

OCULi new features

Luminite introduce new OCULi features

Luminite announce a range of new features for the OCULi wireless PIR camera.

The current COVID-19 crisis highlights the need for visual verification equipment standing in for security personnel; and passively protecting sites. In turn, this has sparked a great amount of interest in OCULi. The standalone OCULi unit is a powerful PIR detector featuring a built-in camera, that will only send notifications upon a detection event; thus, eliminating the need for constant monitoring.

OCULi is fully wireless and battery-operated, making it perfect for protecting vulnerable areas such as vacant properties and construction sites where you cannot install CCTV due to wiring and power limitations.

Updated Power Supply

The most critical new feature is the updated power supply. This new feature uses batteries in series; therefore, extending battery life and supporting rechargeable lithium batteries to use in conjunction with solar panels.

When using rechargeable batteries and a solar panel, you can leave OCULi’s modem online for users to view live images via the mobile app or web portal. The unit recognises changes to the arming schedule immediately and reduced time in server image uploads means it only takes three seconds (typically).

Speaker Updates

When using OCULi with a speaker, events automatically trigger and air a bespoke message once the video finishes recording. The user can record the message and write it onto the SD card.

SIM Changes

Furthermore, Luminite has now simplified SIM activation and their non-network specific UK SIMs make use of EE network coverage.

“OCULi is designed to offer the end user a host of functions without power. The updates our team have been developing around power supply and the use of solar energy makes OCULi a compelling option for installers to offer certain sectors of the market, where traditional security devices cannot be used due to power constraints.” –  Graham Creek, Managing Director at Luminite.
